L’ecologia o è profonda o non è. Questa in sostanza la tesi di Guido Dalla Casa nel suo ultimo libro “Ecologia profonda”, che distingue due tipi di ecologia: un’ “ecologia di superficie” che recepisce le idee correnti in materia, cioè la necessità di evitare gli inquinamenti e salvare “ad isole” gli ecosistemi e le specie animali e vegetali, se utili all’uomo; e una “ecologia profonda” che prende in esame le idee-guida della civiltà industriale, che hanno portato all’attuale modo di vivere e quindi alla distruzione del mondo naturale.
Il problema della conservazione della natura e del mantenimento dei principi che regolano l’evoluzione e consentono il perdurare della vita sulla Terra è legato all’atteggiamento della cultura dominante. L’ecologia profonda è quell’approccio all’ecologia che affronta i problemi relativi alla protezione della Natura non solo dal punto di vista scientifico o tecnico, ma anche filosofico e culturale.
Oltre al confronto iniziale fra i due tipi di ecologia, vengono passate in rapida rassegna alcune culture umane, attribuendo in gran parte le cause della grave situazione attuale al predominio di particolari correnti di pensiero nella cultura occidentale, che ha ormai invaso tutto il mondo.
Vi sono riportate anche le indagini aggiornate sui limiti dello sviluppo, oltre alle nuove acquisizioni e ai risultati della scienza nel campo della dinamica dei sistemi e dell’emergenza dei fenomeni mentali. L’Autore sostiene che solo con il passaggio a una filosofia rientrante nell’ecologia profonda, spesso presente nelle culture tradizionali, si possono ottenere risultati a lunga scadenza nel campo della protezione della Natura.
Come azioni concrete, oltre all’adesione alle iniziative tipiche dell’ecologia di superficie, cioè i Parchi naturali e la diminuzione degli inquinamenti, si propone di diffondere il più possibile le idee dell’ecologia profonda: in appendice è riportato integralmente il Manifesto per la Terra.
