Quando nella scuola si è sparsa la voce che la nuova preside veniva dalla “grande città”, tutti si aspettavano di assistere ad un’innovazione in nome della modernità. La preside napoletana si è presentata invece con progetti di educazione alla ruralità e con una “dichiarazione di guerra” alle merendine confezionate. Dopo il suo arrivo hanno cominciato a consolidarsi buone pratiche quotidiane: la creazione di orti sinergici, il compostaggio e l’arrivo di “Bidolio”, un contenitore per la raccolta di oli esausti dai quali viene poi prodotto il sapone.
Tutto diventa un gioco da bambini. Nella mensa scolastica gli alunni vengono riabituati ai sapori genuini e sono serviti solo i prodotti che la terra produce: il verde non fa storcere il naso e i bambini mangiano fave e piselli a pranzo, pane e marmellata a colazione, pane e olio per merenda. Si chiamano eco-colazione e eco-merenda senza piatti né bicchieri di carta o plastica, tutto è rigorosamente organizzato nel rispetto della filosofia “Rifiuti Zero”.
Questa oasi di buone pratiche, l’anno scorso è stata messa a rischio da una legge italiana che prevede la perdita di autonomia per tutte quelle scuole che contano un numero inferiore a 600 alunni, 400 nel caso delle comunità montane come quella di San Giovanni a Piro. L’istituto contava quindici alunni in meno di quelli previsti dal regolamento, 385, e Maria De Biase è stata costretta al trasferimento. A Settembre è tornata a intravedere spiragli di luce, quando le viene affidata la presidenza dell’istituto di Policastro Marina che, a sua volta, ha in reggenza la scuola di Caselle.
Nei primi giorni del nuovo anno scolastico il Teodoro Gaza rimane in balia degli eventi ma alla fine Maria De Biase ne ottiene la reggenza. In questo modo la preside si è trovata a operare – per quest’anno, poi chissà – su tre scuole diverse, esportando principi e buone pratiche ormai consolidate al Teodoro Gaza.
