We implement an Alternative Education Model (AEM), which methodology and pedagogical concepts apply realistically to the true education needs of our learners.
UMWEP understands that the education for all ages and social class categories is a universal human right and not a profitable business as it is seen and exploited today in the official, conventional stream of education.
That is why our project is an alternative proposal for those migrant and vulnerable workers excluded from formal education. UMWEP-AEM reclaims education for all as a free service and a fundamental human right
So far, our project is based entirely on volunteer tutors who agree with our education concepts and principles and are committed to give some of their free time to help other people. They are from the most diverse nationalities and backgrounds. They are all willing to help vulnerable migrants to gain new skills in order to defend their rights and have better employment opportunities.
We are inspired by Paulo Freire' s ideas and education methods.
'Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity OR it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world' (Paulo Freire, Author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed)
